Season 2, Episode 20: "Two for the Road"

TITLE - "TWO FOR THE ROAD"
Refers to Ana and Jack's dad going to Australia together. Both were escaping from their past. (It seems that everyone on the island was trying to escape from something, and now they've all ended up together on the island.)

ANA LUCIA-JACK'S DAD- SAWYER CONNECTION
Once again we have another connection with the characters in their past. We have already seen Jack's dad and Sawyer in the bar together, but now we see that Ana Lucia was there with Jack's dad. That was a big twist I did not see coming! Also it is Ana who drives him to where he ultimately goes to the bar (and meets Sawyer) and ends up dead after that incident. So in a way you could say that she was indirectly responsible for his death. I loved how Jack's dad hits Sawyer with the car door.

TOM AND SARAH
Jack's dad suggests that he and Ana Lucia use fake names for each other. I am wondering why he says she looks like a Sarah. That was the name of his ex-daughter-in-law. I presume that he is not happy about the fact that she left his son and was cheating on him, so I would think that the name Sarah has a negative meaning for him and wonder why he chose that name for Ana Lucia. Does he think she is a "bad" person? Also why did she choose the name Tom? We have seen the name Tom several times in the show, most notably that was the name of Kate's love who she got killed. It was also the name of Claire's boyfriend (Thomas) and father of her baby.

JACK HAS A SISTER??
So Jack's dad goes to Australia because he has a daughter there. He goes to this woman's house in the middle of the night and tells the woman at the door "She is my daughter, I have a right to see her!" - We don't know who the daughter is, how old she is, or who the woman who answered the door was. Was that the mother of his child? It is not clear if that is her or not, but she clearly does not want him there. Also, why did he feel he would need Ana Lucia's protection when he went to see her? At first I thought that was Sarah, Jack's ex-wife (it looked an awful lot like her) and then I thought it was Claire, it looked and sounded like her too. I don't know. But something tells me there is another connection with everyone on the island involving Jack's dad.

THE ONE
It also seems that Jack's dad is the common connection between alot of the survivors. This kind of goes along with my earlier theory that Jack's dad is in fact a part of the Dharma Initiative and he is the one running the show. We know he lost his medical license and was probably hurting for money. He could never work as a "real" doctor again. I think he joined this Dharma experiment to do medical experimentation and that he faked his own death so his family would not know where he was. He went to this island where he is living and working with the Dharma group. I think he may even be "the one" and the man in charge that they talk about. We already know he is not a forgiving man. We have seen how he treated Jack his whole life, so that would be on par with the way Henry described the man in charge as not being a forgiving man. I think the fact that we have seen his connection with so many of the other survivors makes it seem even more likely that he is in fact on the island and part of Dharma (like the writers are throwing in his connections to the other survivors to make it more of a surprise if indeed he is part of Dharma.) When Jack was hallucinating and thought he saw him, that could have actually been him, running in the forest. And it totally makes sense that with the way this show is written, the two "groups" on the island, one is led by Jack, and the other is led by his father.

THE LONG CON
So it turns out that Ana Lucia CONNED Sawyer, the king of all cons. How did he fall for that? I thought he was much smarter. So Ana uses him to get the gun. Interesting that he didn't even know that it was gone until Jack came and asked for it. You could tell he was pissed because he knew he got fooled.

GOOD VS. BAD
Henry says it was his "mission" to come get Locke. He says he is one of the good ones. I don't know that I believed his story. It seems that Locke didn't believe him either. Henry also tells Ana that she is not a good person. He says that SHE is a killer, not his people. How does he know that she killed two of his people? And how does he know about her encounter with Goodwin. He died so how would the Others know what happened?

I'M ALREADY DEAD
Henry says this to Ana Lucia, notice this is another one of those lines that has been repeated several times. Ana said this earlier to Sayid, and Sayid' responds back that "we're both already dead."

TRUST ISSUES
Why does Locke keep lying to Jack? He never tells him the truth anymore. He lied about Ana's cut on her forehead and didn't tell Jack that Henry attacked her. Was he trying to protect Henry or Ana in his lie? When are they ever going to be honest with one another again? They are never going to be able to start this "war" if they are not even on the same side to begin with.

HURLEY NUMBERS
In the flashback scene when you see Ana drive up in a parking lot in her police car notice the numbers on top of the police cars, you see the numbers 23, 15 and 16. Also when Michael says that there are 22 of the others, that is interesting, why not 23? Maybe because Henry was the 23rd "other" and now that he's gone there are 22.

BAD TWIN
Sawyer is reading a manuscript called Bad Twin. If you remember when the people on the boat came and took Walt there were a pair of identical twins on the boat. Was one of them a "bad" twin? Notice the reference to good and bad, once again.

FATE
Once again fate comes up in the show. Jack's dad mentions fate several times when speaking with Ana Lucia. Fate brought them together in the airport bar (and interestingly enough, fate brings her back to the airport later on where she meets Jack at the bar, just like she met his dad at the bar). Jack's dad says that Fate brought them together and eventually she goes with him to Australia, and then again Fate intervenes and they end up at the bar where he meets Sawyer.

I'M SORRY
Michael apologizes to Ana Lucia and then shoots her. Libby walks in and catches him off guard, and he shoots her as well. He seems to be surprised by this. He then goes in and opens the door to find Henry. At first I thought he was in cahoots with the Others and maybe he was going to greet Henry like he already knew him. But then he shoots himself, which tells me that he is going to blame being shot by Henry. He will tell Jack and Locke that Henry shot all three of them, and that he is in fact a killer and a bad person, just like the rest of them. This will give them even more reason to go after the Others, this time with more revenge. Michael needs them all on his side to get Walt back.

Was Michael lying about his encounter with the others? He tells Jack that they live in tents and are not civilized. Yet we know that they are technologically advanced and are clean shaven. Also Jack and Kate know about the disguises so why did they believe him so easily? Or perhaps did Michael encounter a different group of "others" or was he lying so that they would in fact go to war against them? We have seen the raggedy clothed, barefoot "others" walking through the jungle. Maybe they are trying to trick Michael because they knew he was watching them?

The question now is did Ana Lucia and Libby both die? I don't think that both of them are dead. (And on a side note, the writers have said that the "coincidence" of both actresses getting DUI's and now both were shot, was not at all because of that. They said it was written into the show long before the DUI's and this was in no way a "warning" to the other actors "Don't drink and drive" or you will get written off the show!) But we didn't actually see them die, and next week's scenes Hurley doesn't seem too distraught (I would think if Libby died he would be a bit more distraught). BUT - if she does die it would be his fault (she was going into the hatch to get wine for their picnic) and that would make sense because bad things happen to Hurley based on the numbers. He would think that he finally has a "girlfriend" and then she gets killed. Hurley would blame his luck with the numbers. However, I hope she is not dead because I would like to see more of her flashbacks with the mental institution.
