Season 2, Episode 16: "The Whole Truth"

From the episode, “THE WHOLE TRUTH” -

PREGNANCY TEST
Sun’s pregnancy test container said "Widmore Labs." We
saw this in an previous episode - it was written on
the building in one of Charlie’s flashbacks. I have a
feeling Widmore Labs is somehow connected to Dharma.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Sun discovers she is pregnant, although Jin is not
able to conceive, according to their fertility
specialist. She claims that she was never with anyone
else, which I believe is true.

Jin says that this is a “miracle.” Sun getting
pregnant when they thought it not possible. Locke
gaining the use of his legs was also a “miracle” as
well.

We also see other references to “Immaculate
Conception” with the survivors. In Locke’s flashback
last season, when he goes to see his mother, she tells
him “John, don't you see?? You don't have a father...
you were immaculately conceived." Also, Claire becomes
pregnant as somewhat of a surprise (her boyfriend
doesn’t believe her, and says “you were supposed to be
on the pill” - Not saying it’s not possible to get
pregnant while on the pill, but given what we’ve seen
of Claire’s pregnancy, almost giving the child up for
adoption, the interference by the psychic that “no one
else can raise this child” and then in the birth of
Aaron, he seems to be a “special” child and the
thought of immaculate conception comes to mind (in the
terms of being born free of original sin). Aaron is a
bibical name. Jesus was born free of sin, after
Immaculate Conception from the Virgin Mary. Charlie,
in one of his flashbacks, sees a “vision” of Claire as
the Virgin Mary. Also the Virgin Mary statues that are
evident on the island....it all ties in together with
the “Immaculate Conception” theory and all of the
religious implications in each episode.

MORE BABIES AND PREGNANCIES
Some more tie-ins with all the baby/pregnancy
theories...

- We know that Ana Lucia was pregnant and lost the
baby.

-We know that Danielle was pregnant on the island and
gave birth to a baby girl, Alex, who was taken from
her by THE OTHERS.

- We find out that Kate has taken a pregnancy test
before. Sun asks if she has ever taken one and she
says yes. We do not know if it was positive or
negative.

- Another reference to pregnancy tests was made in the
episode when we find out why Jack’s wife left him. She
tells him that she took a pregnancy test, and then
says “Don’t worry, it was negative.”

RUNNING FROM THE DEVIL

The first time Jack meets Desmond in the stadium he
asks him if he is running from the devil. Locke asks
Ana Lucia the same thing.

Interesting that they use “the devil” being in all the
religious symbolism in the show...

TRUST ISSUES

- Henry Gale said they obviously had "trust issues"
when he sees the power struggle between Locke and
Jack. Libby said the same thing about their group
after being on the other side of the island and being
attacked by THE OTHERS. Kate said the same thing when
she was on the run, when the farmer asked what her
problem was, she said she had trust issues. And
clearly we are seeing that everyone on the island is
losing trust in one another. Kate and Jack used to be
tight, now he keeps her in the dark about everything.
And Locke and Jack are at eachothers throats over who
holds power to the hatch, who makes the decision about
Henry being locked up, etc. - They have all turned
their back on one another and have broken their trust.
This is what happens in Lord of the Flies as well, the
groups divide and go to war.

IS HENRY AN “OTHER?”

- Although Henry draws the map leading them to his
balloon (which we see from the trailer, they do in
fact find), I still don’t believe that he is innocent.
I absolutely with a doubt think he is an Other. The
story that he said at the end about drawing the map to
take them to his people so they could ambush them
seemed downright fishy. Also, he is taking too great
an interest in learning about the other survivors and
figuring out how to test them. If he was just a
regular guy, he wouldn’t care. He has already
successfully put a wedge between Jack and Locke and
has successfully goaded Locke into defying Jack by
bringing in Ana on the deal without consulting him.
Henry may also have let himself get captured in order
to infiltrate the group and learn all he can (just as
Ethan did). Maybe he wanted to learn about the hatch
and he knew they would take him there. He did ask all
sorts of questions about the hatch, including asking
about the computer, and he seems to be “listening” a
lot. I think the real story is that there truly was a
man named Henry Gale who did in fact crash on the
island in a balloon. He was captured by the Others and
they “learned” his story so they could use it in case
any one of them were captured. That way they would
have a “real” story and could prove it by taking them
to where the balloon was. Perhaps the “real” Henry
Gale was Desmond’s partner in the hatch (he did say
that he died...maybe he really was captured by the
Others and they “stole” his identity in order to get
in with the survivors camp.)
