Season 2, Episode 17: "Lockdown"

The title of this episode is "Lockdown" -

HENRY GALE
Ahhhh, so I was right (I love saying that!) in my prediction about Henry Gale. So there truly was a "real" Henry Gale who did in fact crash on the island. However the others found him and took his "story" as a backup plan in case they got captured and used it to
provide a backstory. However our survivors are too smart for the OTHERS. Sayid knew all along he was lying.

NADIA
The woman whose house Locke was inspecting in his flashback was NADIA...Sayid's girl. The minute I heard her voice I recognized her. Remember, the FBI said that they had a location on Nadia in the United States. According to them, she works in a lab in California. (And I'd be willing to bet it is the Widmore Labs that we saw from last week?) In case you missed it, Sun's pregnancy test said Widmore Labs on it. Also in one of Charlie's flashbacks, Widmore was on a building in the background. I think Widmore is somehow connected to Dharma.)

THE REAL SAWYER
I think Locke's father is "the real Sawyer." He is a con man and doesn't seem to care anything about his "son." He just uses people to get what he wants, and we know he conned those two shady guys out of $700,000, as well as conning Locke out of a kidney. In the end when he sees how hurt Locke is after losing Helen, he just drives away and doesn't even care. Definitely the type of person that the "real" Sawyer is. I had read that in the future we will see a connection between Locke and Sawyer. They could be half-brothers, if that is their real dad (Sawyer's mom had been having an affair with him for who knows how
long, that could be his "real" dad).

THE DHARMA LOGO
We are seeing the Dharma logo on everything. The cards that Jack and Sawyer were playing with had the logo on it. Of course there was the food that mysteriously was "dropped" on the island (gotta love the Dharma mac and cheese!) Also, in Locke's flashbacks outside the
motel, the planes going by were Oceanic planes, which appeared to have the DHARMA logo on the tail of the plane. (Remember the Dharma logo on the shark's tail last season? Is there anything this logo ISN'T on?!!)

LOCKE
The episode focused alot on Locke and his "weakness" - not just in the physical sense but also in the mental. First, the episode starts out with him on the exercise bike, focuses in very closely on his legs turning the pedals around and around. I found this significant in that he couldn't even walk before, and now he is on the bike. Then of course he gets pinned under the doors and appears to be very hurt. When Henry helps him out, he asked him if he thought he could get up, and Locke started to say no, but then quickly changes
his mind mid-sentence and says he can do it and makes himself get up, even though he obviously struggled. This goes back to the "don't tell me what I can't do" from his past. I think he is started to overcome the feeling that he "can't" do something, which is why he is struggling so much in having power on the island and being in control. Just like when Henry made the comment to him about Jack being mad that he let him out, he got really angry and forced Henry back into the vault. That was why they showed those specific flashbacks. It shows his vulnerability and in being "conned." Once again in this episode, Locke gets "conned" by Henry Gale, who he truly believes only to find out he, too, lied to him. Locke is turning out not to be the great "all-knowing" man that we thought he was in the beginning, always helping people and having such wisdom. Turns out he is the most
vulnerable of any of them, and he just keeps on getting conned. Poor Locke.

HELEN
So we find out in this episode why Locke and Helen parted ways. Because Locke wanted his father’s love more than hers. He even says he didn’t do it for the money. He did it so he could see his father again. He wants so badly to have a father. Note the relevance here that everyone on the island has "father" issues. Locke so badly wants to feel that he "belongs." Just like when he first met up with him last season, his father says to him "I need a kidney just like you need a father."

ARE YOU HIM?
- Desmond said to Locke when he first went into the hatch, this is when Desmond thought he was his replacement.
- Helen also said it to Locke's dad when he opened the hotel room.
This is just another example of repeated phrases that we see over and over in the show. (Other repeated phrases are "we have trust issues," "Are you running from the devil?," and "see you in another life.")

PUSH THE BUTTON
Strange that Henry remembered the numbers after hearing them only once, didn't ask Locke to repeat them. Then he fell down, hit his head and passed out, yet still he remembered the numbers. Strange. Also, we do not actually "see" him punching in the numbers. So
this tells me that he knows more about the hatch and the numbers. I think Henry getting knocked out could have been staged on his part. Henry wanted the counter to go down to zero and he knew what would happen when it did. He wanted the timer to hit zero so that he
also could see some information that is only visible in blacklight. His whole capture could have been part of an elaborate plane to get into the hatch and be there when the counter went to zero. We do not know what was on the other side of the door that Locke was
trapped under. Was their blacklit writing on the other side? Also notice Henry does not answer Locke’s call after the blast doors come up.

THE NUMBERS
More of the "numbers" showed up in the episode...the safety deposit box where Locke went to get the money was 1516. And the real Henry Gale's address shown on his drivers liscence was 815 walnut ridge road. Also on the "map" shown under the black lights, next to the hatch stations are the letters CV and then the corresponding 1-6 (to represent each of the six hatches or "stations" on the island) - CV III is the roman numeral for 108 (which is the sum of all the six "numbers" as well as the countdown on the hatch clock).

THE HATCH MAP

Obviously this is a map of all six hatches and how they connect (looks like they are connected through passageways) as well as "scribbling" and comments written all over. It says "I am here" with the swan logo, and then all six hatches. I think Desmond may have drawn this map while he was living in the hatch. Also, a very interesting note is that it says "Possible CVII - inactive since accident" - you can see it written at the bottom. Perhaps this is something to do with the "incident" that they talked about on the Dharma film. On the hatch to the left of swan it looks like it is a picture of flame and it says inferno or infection. Also below it is the square root of 16, 64, and 225, which everyone knows is 4 8 15, the first three numbers in the sequence. At very bottom, looks like it possibly says "Psalm 5:15 (to left of where it says "inactive since accident") -- that scripture says "Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify me." (Psalm 5:15). Also the word “arrow” is written on one of the circles which must be the arrow station that the tailies were in. On another hatch is written “the flame”. So that means the names of the hatches are swan, arrow, flame and “medical hatch”. When the timer went to zero last time the egyptian hyeroglyphics that came up were a flame, bird and arrow. We also can see that there is a middle hatch which has a question mark on it. (click image to enlarge)

LATIN PHRASES
These phrases are written on the hatch map:

Ut Sit Magna Tamen Certe Lenta Ira Deorum Est - The wrath of the gods may be great, but it certainly is slow

Cogito Ergo Doleo - I think therefore I am depressed

Malum consilium quod mutari non potest - It's a bad plan that can't be changed.

Sursum Corda- Lift up your hearts

Credo nos in fluctu eodem esse - I think we're on the same wavelength

aegrescit medendo- It becomes worse for the remedies employed.

Hic Sunt Dracones- here there be dragons (a reference to the monster?)
