ONE DAY AND COUNTING...

I am SO excited about the season premiere of LOST tomorrow night! I can't believe I have been waiting over 8 months for this! I just wanted to post a little "recap" of a few things that we have forgotten about from the 3rd season (Heck, I have forgotten most of this stuff already!) I think the previews have built up so much about the flash forwards and them getting off the island (eventually), but there are alot of other things going on in the story line that we don't want to forget about:

- Sun is pregnant. From what we know of other pregnant women on the island, none has ever survived if getting pregnant on the island. It was determined that she did get pregnant on the island, and therefore Jin is the father of her baby (another island medical "miracle.")

- Alex was reunited with her mother (Danielle Rousseau) and we also learned that Ben is her father. She hates him and considers him evil. She says that she is not "one of them" and continually helps out the survivors.

- Ben had a tumor that Jack operated on in order to save him. He agreed to do this in exchange for getting off the island. However, Locke blew up the submarine just before Ben was going to let him go.

- The Others believe that "Jacob" is their leader, although no one is allowed to see him. Ben is the only one. However after Locke went to see him, we learn that he can't actually be seen. Locke heard him speak, but Ben could not hear it, and appeared jealous and angry that Locke was able to hear him. Ben then shoots Locke and leaves him to die in a ditch.

- Juliet has been kept on the island against her will. She desperately wants to go home, but Ben will not let her leave, as "her work" on the island is not done. So she has to work with Ben and do what he wants in order to be allowed to leave. Eventually the Others "out" her and she joins Jack and the other survivors, although many of them don't trust her.

- Ben somehow managed to get John Locke's father on the island, where ultimately he was going to make him kill him. Locke couldn't do it, but eventually Sawyer found out that was the "real" Sawyer, and he killed him himself.

- Kate and Sawyer are apparently "together" now - also remember that we saw in Kate's previous life that she befriended Cassidy (Sawyer's ex, and the mother of his child). There is speculation that Kate may be pregnant as well, as Juliet did some kind of secret "labs" on Kate.

- Desmond has visions of Charlie dying, but always saves him, until he tells him it is his fate to die. Charlie agrees to go to the underwater hatch to "save" everyone else by turning on their radio signals, to help them get rescued, even if it means sacrificing his own life. Desmond also has visions of Penny coming to find him, and has visions of a helicopter coming to the island (which it does).

- Ben has always said that he and his people are "the good ones." This has always implied that there is also another group that he considers the "bad" ones. Now we know that there is a new group of people who have been trying to find this island for some time. Naomi (the parachuter) and her team of people obviously are a part of that group, and they are not in fact there to rescue the survivors.

In the season finale, the obvious thing we learn is that at some point Jack and Kate DO in fact get off the island, which of course is the big revelation. But there are a few other big points from the final episode that we shouldn't forget about:

- We learned that someone dies and no one goes to his funeral. I am voting for Locke, although many people believe it is Ben. The producers have said that the person in the coffin IS someone that we have seen before (i.e., not a new character)

- One of the biggest things from this episode, in my opinion, is the fact that Penny (Desmond's girlfriend) calls the underwater hatch station, yet she had no idea that Desmond was there. Why is she calling there? We were always led to ASSUME that she was looking for Desmond's boat when she hired the Portuguese search crew who "located" the island - but maybe they were not in fact looking for him? She (and her father, who owns Widmore Labs) could be a part of this new group of bad guys who have been looking for the island. She seemed to have no idea that Desmond was even on the island. At the end of last season, when the search team calls her and tell her they located it, we just assumed they were talking about Desmond's boat...but I think it was just the island she was looking for. Remember she has alot of money, and her dad owns a Lab. I think they were looking for the island for some kind of research, and not in fact Desmond. However I find it very strange that she placed a call to an underwater hatch station yet she was not calling there for Desmond - so who was she calling...and why?

- Locke survives the gunshot wound and returns, only to threaten Jack if he answers the radio call from Naomi's boat. Locke will do anything to keep them from being "saved" and leaving the island. He even kills Naomi (which I have to admit I forgot about, until I went back and read my old blog posts).

- Ben warns Jack NOT to radio the rescue boat, he warns him that these are bad people who have been trying to find the island for a long time, and that everyone on the island will die if he chooses to radio them. Jack does it anyway. I do believe Ben, and I do think that he is not necessarily as "bad" as we have always thought he was...just misunderstood. Everyone has to go to certain lengths to protect things that others can't understand, and I do believe that he was telling the truth about not wanting them to radio to Naomi's boat. I think we are going to see a new side of Ben this season, and that he was in fact trying to protect the secrets of the island.

SO EXCITED for the new season to begin! Tonight (Wednesday) they are replaying the season finale with the "enhanced version" where apparently they are going to have clues and things about the episode written underneath. Then tomorrow night (Thursday) will be a one hour recap episode, and then the season premiere. (I hate how they've set it up to be a 2-hour premiere, it is not, just a recap and then the show.)

stacey, i love reading your recaps!

just one small point, and you make have discussed this earlier when it was revealed (end of season 2 or beginning of season 3 i think): if i remember season 1 correctly, i don't think that Ben is Alex's REAL father. doesn't Danielle say that everyone in her group died (presumably including Alex's real father) and then they took her baby? I'm guessing that maybe Ben was involved in taking Alex and decided to "adopt" her and raise her as his own.

again, very minor point, but just something that I had always figured.

i can't wait to read your post tomorrow on the season 4 premiere :)

Hi Jen,

Yep, that is right - Ben is not Alex's biological father. Rousseau had said long ago (back in season 1) that she was already pregnant when she crashed on the island. We also know this must be true because every woman who gets pregnant on the island dies, so she definitely was already pregnant when she got there. She did say that the Others took her baby shortly after she got there - so we have to assume that Ben just "adopted" Alex and raised her as his own. Of course, Alex has no idea that she was "taken" and thinks of Ben as her real father since that is all she has ever known.

SO excited for tonight!!!

Stacey-
Ben is not as "bad" as we have always thought he was... just misunderstood? Come on. How many deaths is he responsible for? Is he to be forgiven because he has a higher purpose to protect the secrets of the island?

I hope they don't cop out and try to give him redeeming qualities this season. He's bad, and he should get even worse before a spectacular end to him... like Jack tossing him out of an airplane with out a parachute.

LOVE YOUR BLOG. Looking forward to 8 radical eps, and your outstanding commentary.

Randy

My wife pointed out something in the terrible 'enhanced' version of the finale.

The commentary said the doctor Jack is talking to in the hospital has the same last name as Bernard and Rose. Could he be their son? If so, he's pretty old.

Wasn't there a guy on the island who helped Ben when Ben was a young boy? Now he works for Ben and does not seem to have aged.

Could Jack and Kate not be aging? And this doctor really is their son?

Long shot maybe.
